Insight into Life as a SODA Intern

Updated: Oct 3, 2022

Shari Deeken, Editorial Consultant

Meet Chicago-based Harsh Chitalia, who recently completed his Finance and Strategy internship on SODA’s National Leadership Team.  Harsh is a senior majoring in Finance at DePaul University, having already received his Associates Degree from Oakton Community College, and also has been serving in the U.S. Army Reserves since 2015.

Harsh said he learned about SODA through his college’s Handshake Job Board. As SODA’s first Finance and Strategy Intern, Harsh’s responsibilities were varied. One of his projects was to improve SODA’s budget, and another was to help develop SODA’s strategic plan.

“As an intern, I have already learned a lot from SODA’s National President, Sara Miller, and everyone else with their wealth of knowledge and expertise that they possess in different arenas. Getting an opportunity to learn, while receiving constant feedback, is most enjoyable, as it has enabled me to further my professional skills,” he continued.

“Also,” Harsh said, “Being able to get input on my work from our Advisory Board has been an equally fantastic experience due to their vast knowledge on the subject matter.”

He thinks that working for SODA will definitely have an impact on his future career path.  And, after working with some passionate Leadership Team members, Harsh hopes to introduce fellow students to SODA and inform them about becoming a chapter, saying, “It’s the least I can do!”
