Welcoming SODA's Second Employee, Ryan Laughlin!

Written by Nicole Nidea, Program Manager

SODA has experienced a lot of growth since I joined the team full-time last April: we welcomed 12 new chapters (for a total of 43 chapters), we launched our event fund to support students who want to host one-off organ and tissue advocacy events, our students educated a record-breaking 8,600+ people about organ and tissue donation, and more.

See all of our accomplishments in our 2021 Impact Report.

As SODA continues to grow, we believe our students can save more lives with deeper support, which is why I’m excited to announce that we’ve welcomed Ryan Laughlin to the SODA National team as our second employee!

Ryan will be our Program Coordinator and provide direct and deeper support to our students. Like you, he believes in students’ ability to make an impact, and he has committed himself to a career in supporting students. He has a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration and has held several student-serving roles, including Student Engagement Coordinator at the Georgia Institute of Technology Alumni Association, Graduate Assistant of Fraternity/Sorority Life at Appalachian State University, and many student affairs practicums.

Some more about Ryan:

  • In addition to his master’s degree from Appalachian State University, Ryan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a minor in Spanish from Winthrop University.

  • Ryan is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. His master’s degree has a focus in social justice, and he has presented social justice themed presentations to a variety of audiences both on and off campus.

  • Before his student affairs career, Ryan was a Senior Digital Marketing Specialist and brings marketing expertise to the SODA team.

  • When not working, Ryan enjoys spending time outside riding his mountain bike or hiking with his partner.

  • Ryan got married on a zipline in Catalina in 2021 because his partner won a contest.

Here’s what Ryan’s role might mean for you:

  • If you’re a student, Ryan will be your point of contact. If you have any questions or concerns (or would just like to chat with someone!), reach out to Ryan at students@sodanational.org.

  • If you’re part of an OPO or Donate Life State Team, I will continue to be your go-to person at SODA, but know that Ryan is here to help the students in your service area.

  • If you’re a supporter or community member, you’ll hear from Ryan periodically via email and on social media. Keep an eye out on those channels to follow Ryan’s journey at SODA.

Most of our supporters are on Instagram! Follow us there (@sodanational) to get updates about Ryan’s work.

Ryan’s addition to the team has made it such an exciting time for SODA. I’m so glad you’re on this journey with us, and all this growth would not be possible without your support. So, thank you!

Send Ryan a congratulations and welcome message. His email is ryan@sodanational.org.
